MGIMO Holds Outreach Events for Vietnamese Schoolchildren and Students

On January 24-27, an MGIMO delegation visited the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, where it conducted a series of university presentation and career guidance events, as well as working meetings with partners. The delegation included Elizaveta A. Rudenko, Head of the International Marketing, Assistant to the Vice-Rector for International Ties, Youth, and Social Policy, Yulia Ye. Popel, Analyst of the International Marketing Group, Sergey K. Vasilyev, Deputy Director of the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy, Anastasia K. Makarenko, Senior Lecturer at the Department of French Language and Deputy Academic Supervisor of the Oeconomicus Economics Club named after A.V. Makarenko.

       On January 24-25, the MGIMO team held working meetings with representatives of the Russian Embassy in Vietnam, the leadership of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi, representatives of the Sputnik and TASS news agencies, heads of the representative offices of Russian energy companies Novatek and Zarubezhneft, as well as the Russian Trade Representative in Vietnam and Head of the Rosatom State Corporation’s representative office.

       On January 26, “MGIMO Day” was held at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi. Distinguished guests included H.E. Gennady S. Bezdetko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Vladimir V. Murashkin, Head of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Hanoi; MGIMO alumnus Nguyen Manh Tien, Vice Chairman of the Committee for National Defense, Security and International Relations of the National Assembly of Vietnam, member of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Russia; MGIMO alumna Nguyen Phuong Nga, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Associations. The distinguished Vietnamese guests were presented with letters of gratitude from MGIMO Rector, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Anatoly V. Torkunov for their support of MGIMO Day, as well as commemorative gifts from the University.

       Elizaveta Rudenko informed Vietnamese high school students about the University’s history, admissions and academic specifics, the social, cultural, and sports life for international students at MGIMO, as well as special projects for international applicants. Yulia Popel conducted a “Quiz for Future Global Leaders: The Russia-Vietnam Strategic Partnership” for the young participants. Anastasia K. Makarenko delivered an interactive lecture titled “The Economic Puzzle: Why is Cooperation Beneficial for Russia and Vietnam?” and presented the School of International Economic Relations and the Oeconomicus Club’s special project “Doing Business in Asia”. Sergey K. Vasilyev introduced the audience to the International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy and gave a lecture on “Energy Diplomacy and International Energy Cooperation”.

       The presentations by the University representatives sparked keen interest among applicants from Hanoi. Participants asked questions and took part in interactive sessions. The most active attendees received branded souvenirs from the “MGIMO International” collection.

       Following “MGIMO Day”, representatives of the University’s International Marketing Group held a working meeting with the leadership of the Department of International Cooperation under the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training. Agreements were reached on expanding cooperation in promoting MGIMO’s special projects for international applicants and extending the network of partner schools in Vietnam.

       Also on January 26, Anastasia K. Makarenko and Sergey K. Vasilyev delivered lectures at the Hanoi University of Electric Power and the Foreign Trade University. The lectures concluded with Q&A sessions, during which students showed interest in the topics of Russia-ASEAN economic and energy cooperation addressed by the faculty representatives.
