Visit to Kyrgyzstan

From March 31 to April 5, the MGIMO delegation visited the Kyrgyz Republic to hold a series of outreach and career guidance events, as well as working meetings with partners. The visit was organized by the University’s International Marketing Group, with support from the Center for Science Diplomacy and Youth in Science at the Institute for International Studies, the School of International Relations, and the School of Governance and Politics.

The delegation comprised Elizaveta Rudenko, Head of the International Marketing and Assistant to the Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, Social Affairs, and International Relations; Yulia Popel, Analyst with the International Marketing Group; Alexander Chekov, Lecturer at the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy of Russia; Daria Solovyova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Comparative Politics; Sergei Markedonov, Lead Research Fellow at the Institute for International Studies; and Yaroslav Askov, Analyst at the Center for Science Diplomacy and Youth in Science, Institute for International Studies.

On April 1, the MGIMO delegation took part in the “Education in Russia” exhibition held at B.N.Yeltsin Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University. Yulia Popel held a series of consultations, providing prospective students with information about academic programs, schools, and admission procedures for international applicants.

On April 2, at the Gazprom Kyrgyzstan School and Gymnasium No.24 in Bishkek, Alexander Chekov held an interactive diplomatic game, allowing school students to try their hand as international affairs professionals tackling complex political scenarios. Daria Solovyova delivered two lectures – “The Art of Diplomatic Protocol and Official Ceremonies” and “Politics as a Calling and a Profession in the Modern World” – to students at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and Kyrgyz National University. Elizaveta Rudenko held a working meeting with the leadership of B.N.Yeltsin Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University and took part in a broadcast on Radio Sputnik Kyrgyzstan dedicated to the University’s promotional events in Bishkek.

On April 3, the «MGIMO Days» in Bishkek started at the Technopark IT Hub, with over 200 school and university students, as well as media and education community representatives, in attendance. Members of the International Marketing Group presented the University and answered all questions from prospective students regarding admission to MGIMO. Alexander Chekov delivered a lecture titled «The 21st Century: An Era of Stability or Instability?» and presented the School of International Relations, while Daria Solovyova speaking to MGIMO Days participants about the modern politician’s profession and the distinctive features of training at the School of Governance and Politics.

The day continued with a meeting between the MGIMO delegation and the leadership of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. Both sides discussed potential formats for cooperation and interaction in the field of education, including academic exchanges.

Finally, an in-person meeting with members of the MGIMO International Applicants Club took place at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Bishkek. Yulia Popel answered students’ questions about admission to MGIMO and student life, and also led several interactive games. 

On April 4, as part of MGIMO Days in Bishkek, a project game «Kyrgyzstan-Russia: Trajectories of Interaction» was held at B.N.Yeltsin Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University. The event was organized by the International Marketing Group and the Center for Science Diplomacy and Youth in Science, Institute for International Studies. The event brought together around 100 school and university students interested in international relations and planning to pursue careers in diplomacy.
